Episode 59 - The Earthquake Apocalypse

July 15, 2018

Welcome back! Bryan Kane PhD has recently watched San Andreas, starring the Rock, and he believes that we're overdue for an earthquake. He's been reading things on the Internet, and since we're living right along the San Andreas fault, he's feeling worried. Apparently were in for a big one. If it hits, California is in trouble. High Rise apartments, big cities, aftershocks, what will we do? Are we prepared? We discuss our escape plan, what the aftermath of these earthquakes could be, and what the rebuilding process would look like. If the electrical grid when out, we wouldn't be able to podcast! And why is nobody talking about this? Don't worry because we are. All of this and more on this episode of Topicocalypse.

July 11, 2018

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live on another planet? Well good news Topicocalypse fans, that's exactly what we're discussing. We're joined on this episode by special returning guest, Brett Crews. He wants to know if we would be willing to join the Mars colonization project. Could we live on another planet? According to the "experts" once you sign up for it, you can't come back. Could you leave everything behind? And is it even possible? According to Bryan Kane PhD it takes three years to get to Mars. We talk about colonizing, extra terrestrail life, and a severe lack of gravity. Most importantly, if successful, would Mars break away from Earth? Episode 57 - Politics Are Ripping Us Apart

July 9, 2018

Politics are in the news again! Who is surprised? We're not. As you all know immigration has been a huge issue, and media outlets everywhere are eating it up. Josh, who spends a lot of time online promoting this excellent podcast started to notice a trend on social media. People who tear apart (no pun intended) their family and friends just because their opinions differ on this matter. This isn't the first time we've seen this happen, either. This leads into a conversation about political opinions, when is it worth it to have one, at what cost do you need to prove your opinion is superior, what are you doing about it, and just how petty the whole thing has become. Have we turned into a society that whines about our problems and doesn't offer any solutions? We think so.

First off, if you disagree with anything we're saying, or you want to have a say, please email us at topicocalypse@gmail.com and we promise to read your response on the show, whether we agree with it or not. This episode of Topicocalypse is brought to you by WheelyQ BBQ Sauces and Rubs. It's the summer time, and what better way to spend the Summer than having a BBQ? Episode 56 - Space Force

July 4, 2018

What's up fans? It's the fourth of July and we were thinking, what better way to celebrate freedom than by listening to a brand new episode of Topicocalypse? Donald Trump is in the news! That never happens, right? Just kidding. Big Dawg J Len has been thinking long and hard about comments made my our commander and chief about how America needs to be dominant in space. Apparently he said that America needs to create another branch of the armed forces for space, and get this, he wants to call it the Space Force. Gotta give him props on originality. Naturally, the Internet has been alight with memes. However, this gets us talking about what such a claim (should it be real) would mean. Would this create a war in space? What kind of technology would be needed for such a thing? And if people ever go colonize Mars, would they be breaking away from the United States or the earth as a whole? This feels like the plot of a bad science-fiction movie. Look out for those xenomorphs. We talk about all of this and more on the latest episode of Topicocalypse.

This episode is brought to you by WheelyQ BBQ Sauce and Rubs. It's summer, and BBQ season has just begun! Episode 55 - Movies We Didn’t Appreciate As Kids

June 30, 2018

We're still alive after episode 55! Who knows, we might even make it to 100! In the meantime, check out this sweet sweet episode, where Danial hit us with a topic about movies. Can you believe that? It's not music this time! Danial wants to know what movies (and cartoons) we watched as kids that we didn't appreciate until we became adults. What do we appreciate now that we didn't back then as far as soundtracks, actors, technology. We talk about Entourage, Forrest Gump, Golden Girls, Princess Bride, Blazing Saddles, Spaceball, Jurassic Park, Shrek, Hey Arnold, Catdog, Angry Beavers, Doug, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Mortal Kombat, Star Wars, Kingdom of Heaven, Love Actually, Schindler's List, Gladiator, Troy, Black Hawk Down, Patton, Saving Private Ryan, Terminator 2, Land Before Time, Mars Attacks, IT, The Great Outdoors, Clerks, and so many more. Plus special shoutout to John Williams, Mel Brooks, and Jeff Goldblum (who might the greatest actor ever).

Episode 54 - Commencement Speakers

June 27, 2018

On the very first ever episode 54 of Topicocalypse, we're discussing our thoughts on reaching over fifty episodes of this train-wreck of a podcast. The Topicocalypse fam gets their first ever fan email, and it's directed at Danial so called "nice guy." And then Josh asks a very important question about our past selves and what we would have wanted to hear from our high school commencement speakers. Are commencement speakers still relevant? Do they blow rainbows up your backside? Josh feels like they need to be more realistic. Bryan Kane PhD thinks it varies from person to person. Danial doesn't remember who spoke at his graduation. Big Dawg thinks that realistic expectations should have fallen on the shoulders of their parents. Does anybody really care about this moment when they're about to graduate high school? We're all very divided on this topic.

Episode 53 - Another Story Ruined by Hollywood

June 24, 2018

What's up everybody? We're back with a brand new 53rd episode of the only podcast on the Internet. On this episode of Topicocalypse, Josh saw the trailer for The Girl in the Spider's Web, and he isn't happy. For those of you who are familiar with the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo novels by Steig Larsson, you know that Lisbeth Salander is one of the most badass characters to ever grace the pages of a novel or the big screen. However, the latest film in the series as produced by Sony called The Girl in the Spider's Web has taken her character and not only butchered the novel, but made her into something she was never intended to be, a Swedish batman. So this leads Josh to ask the question, is Hollywood butchering great stories for the sake of a social agenda? After all, Lisbeth Salander is already a prevelant character without being turned into a hyper violent vigilante against men. What do you think? We talk about all of this and more on this episode of Topicocalypse.

June 18, 2018

What's up fans and other people who happen to stumble upon this gem of a podcast. We're doing something a little different this time around. Chad Smith (of Hyperschmitt fame) and myself attended E3 2018 as press this year and were allowed to get up close and personal with some of the biggest video games coming out this year and next, including Metro Exodus, Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion, Jump Force, Dragonball Fighter Z, Divinity II Definitive Edition, Soulcalibur IV, Starlink, and a few others that we're not currently allowed to talk about. But we're giving our thoughts on these games, what we liked and didn't like, and what we're planning on playing when they come out. This is our coverage of E3 day 2.

Episode 50 - We’re Offended That You’re Offended

June 12, 2018

We made it to episode fifty! This is a monumental day for us here at the Topicocalypse studio (which may or may not be somebody's kitchen). To be completely honest, we didn't think we'd make it this far, and we did! So thank you for following us into the audio abyss and back again. On this episode, Bryan Kane PhD wants to talk about people being offended, and people being offended at other people being offended. First we talk about Roseanne Barr who went on a racist rant on Twitter and then blamed Ambien. ABC quickly pulled the plug and put a bunch of people out of work. Was this an overreaction? Then we talk about politics on social media. Is it constructive? Do hashtag campagins actually accomplish anything? Everybody has a voice now, but with no solutions being offered up, we've become a society of complaining. Sex, gender, race, politics, it's great that we're having conversations, but where is it going? We talk about all of this and more on this episode of Topicocalypse.

This episode is brought to you by WheelyQ BBQ Sauce and Rubs, check out their website today for all of your BBQ needs. And make sure you listen to the end of the podcast for an exclusive download code that will get you 15% off of your next order. As always, you can find us on the Internet at Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. If you want to listen to back episodes of the show, you can find them on podbean, podcasts.com, Google Play, Stitcher, iTunes, Apple Podcasts and more! Thank you for tuning into our first ever 50th episode!
